Coaching for Writers

We all recognize great writing when we see it, yet it’s not always clear how to bridge the gap between the work that inspires us and the wildly imperfect products of our own efforts.

Working with a skilled writing coach can lift you through that gap and get you to the next level in your writing.

I love working with writers at all stages of development. My coaching is informed by thirty years of my own writing practice and deep study across a wide range of forms and genres. I work with writers of fiction, television scripts, screenplays, and works for the stage. Naturally I have a special fondness for writers of children’s books and YA fiction!

As your writing coach, I can work with you short or long-term to:

  • Get that great idea out of your head and onto the page.
  • Give detailed feedback on your work-in-progress. Not a list of what's wrong, but a practical guide for how to improve.
  • Offer targeted recommendations for study, with assignments to sharpen your writing craft where it most needs sharpening.
  • Help you develop an action plan for finishing your draft or revision, with clear goals and built-in accountability.
  • Review your work habits to make sure they're joyful, productive and sustainable.  Blocks, procrastination, lack of focus, "getting stuck"—we can fix that!
  • Design a "next steps" plan for your project and your career.
